SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — When it comes to finding drugs in the city of Springfield, police officers know that one drug transaction can often lead them to another.
They say it’s what led them to 31-year-old Alexis Nunez of Crystal Avenue in Springfield.
“Narcotics detectives are hard at work all year long, getting drug dealers in jail, and they got a line on this Alexis Nunez — that he was dealing in Springfield — and they got a hold of his cellphone number,” says Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney.
These days, police say that’s how most deals are made — call a dealer and pick a place to meet.
“On January 2nd, they met him at 156 Mill Street and a drug transaction took place with an undercover operative and Mr. Nunez, where 10 bags of heroin were sold.”
A week later, police say the undercover operative went back to Nunez for more.
“They contacted him on a cellphone, and right here on the corner — they follow him out of 69 Crystal Avenue — he walked down to the corner here and met the undercover operative and then sold another 10 bags of heroin,” says Delaney. “This guy was a pretty big heroin dealer.”
Police say another transaction took place a few days later on January 10th.
Officers were preparing to make an arrest, then the trail went cold.
“Mr. Nunez has disappeared, somewhere in Western Massachusetts,” says Delaney.
Nunez is wanted for distribution and possession of heroin, charges which have put him behind bars before.
