Portion of Route 2 to Close for Two Weeks

Construction

CHARLEMONT, Mass. (WGGB) — Repair work will cause a stretch of Route 2 in Franklin County to close for two weeks.

MassDOT says that crews will be replacing a deteriorated culvert in Charlemont, which allows Hartwell Brook to flow into the Deerfield River.

That work will require the closure of the roadway in both directions.

MassDOT adds that passenger vehicles will will utilize a detour onto Burrington Road and will rejoin Route 2 where it intersects with Burrington (depicted in the first map below).

A truck detour will also be established, and will follow Routes 112, 116, and 8 (depicted in the second map below).

Workers will be performing two 10-hour days to help expedite the work during the closure.

Northern Construction has been selected for this $1.2 million project.
