People Dress as Rosie the Riveter to Petition for 2 Ballot Initiatives
SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (WGGB) — Rosie the Riveter and a whole lot of them, took to the streets today to send a message.
College students, parents and others dressed up and went door-to-door with a petition.
They are asking for support for the “Earned Paid Sick Time and the Living Wage ballot initiatives.” They want workers to be able to earn sick time, and want an increase to the $8 an hour minimum wage.
They hope to get those items on the 2014 ballot.
Student, Jessica Avery told ABC40, “”Pretty good, this is our first main event. We did a little bit of tabling. So far we’ve gotten 100 signatures. And tonight we’re hoping to get about 150 or 200 more.”
Students with UMass, Amherst, Mt. Holyoke College, and Smith College were involved in today’s effort.
