BOSTON, Mass. (WGGB) — Fans will get to celebrate the Red Sox World Series with a ‘rolling rally’ this weekend.
At a press conference Thursday morning, Boston Mayor Tom Menino, along with Larry Lucchino and Tom Werner from the Red Sox, announced that the ‘rolling rally’ will be Saturday.
“The ducks are ready, the fans are ready, the city is ready. Let’s celebrate,” Menino says.
The event will begin Saturday from Fenway Park at 10:00 a.m. The route will then follow a similar route as the 2004 celebration – down Boylston Street, splash into the Charles River, and exit the river near the Museum of Science.
Lucchino is stressing that the team and the city wants Saturday’s gathering to be a family event, and hopes that with the rally occurring on a weekend, more young children and families will be able to attend. He adds that it’s anticipated that most, if not all, of the players will participate in the event.
Menino adds that team and city leaders will be meeting with Boston Police and other public safety officials Thursday afternoon to outline security plans.
The Red Sox clinched their third World Series since 2004 Wednesday, after a 6-1 against the Cardinals in Game 6 at Fenway.
