Salvation Army Holds ‘Coats for Kids’ Drive

SPRINGFIELD (WGGB) — The Salvation Army was hard at work in Springfield Saturday, hoping to get local kids ready for the winter season.

The organization handed out hundreds of coats at their annual “Coats for Kids” event at their Springfield headquarters.

It is the Salvation Army’s first major event of the season and they are grateful for all of the help from the community.

“I’d like to thank them for their support,” said Sgt. John Ferriera of the Salvation Army. “The Salvation Army can’t do anything that we do without the support of the people from the community.”

They gave away roughly 100 gently used coats, which are washed and distributed to low income families.

“We’re very grateful for the generosity of the folks that give coats for this program and any other kind of support they give to the Salvation Army during the year.”

They will also hold a toy drive for the holiday season in the coming months.
