Boston Schools to Open an Hour Early on Monday

schoolbusBOSTON (AP) — Boston Public Schools will open one hour early Monday after the contractor that runs its buses fired two drivers in connection with last month’s one-day strike.

A posting on the district’s site says the early opening will make it easier for parents to drop off their children.

A schools spokesman tells the Boston Herald there’s no reason to believe there will be a job action Monday but said the decision to open early was a result of “recent events.”

Veolia Transportation says two drivers have been terminated in connection with the Oct. 8 strike that affected some 33,000 students.

The union representing the drivers said the strike was initiated by “rogue” employees. Drivers said their grievances included health plan issues and information about routes.
