DEERFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — An 83-year-old woman from Montague has been identified as the person who was killed in a head-on collision in Deerfield earlier this afternoon on River Road.
Emergency crews were called out to the crash at 520 River Road just after 3:00 p.m. Monday.
Investigators on-scene told ABC40’s Brendan Monahan that two cars collided head-on, and one person inside each car was trapped.
The Montague woman died on scene as a result of her injuries.
According to Mary Carey with the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office, The other driver, a 19-year-old male from South Deerfield, was transported to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield with non-life-threatening injuries.
At this time police are not releasing the identity of the 83-year-old woman or the male driver.
The investigation is being conducted by the Deerfield Police Department, the Massachusetts State Police Detectives Unit assigned to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office, and the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section (CARS).
River Road was closed for several hours as crews worked to clear the scene.
