Police Identify Man Struck by Car in Granby


GRANBY, Mass. (WGGB) — Police have released the name of a man who was hit by a car Monday in Granby

Granby Police Sgt. Mark Smith says that 63-year-old James Mears of Granby was crossing through traffic on the southbound side of West State Street around 4:30 p.m. Monday, when he headed towards the northbound lane and was hit by a car.

Where the incident occurred, Smith adds that there are no marked crossing areas in that section of road.

Mears was taken to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. He remains in the hospital with a fractured leg, damage to his knee and shoulder and injuries to his head.

The driver of the car, an 18-year-old woman from Springfield, was not hurt.

The incident remains under investigation.
