Wing Memorial Announces Staffing Reductions
PALMER, Mass. (WGGB) — Over four dozen employees of Wing Memorial Hospital and Medical Centers have been impacted by cost reduction measures.
After ending the fiscal year $1.2 million behind projections, and in response to “declining volumes and reimbursements,” Wing Memorial says in a statement released Tuesday, the medical facility is implementing staff reductions and hour reductions that effected 54 employees.
Sixteen jobs were eliminated and 38 other employees had their hours reduced.
The facility has also “experienced a significant decline in volumes, which has been exacerbated by a serious shortage of primary car physicians” and the announcement Tuesday is an effort to “maintain financial sustainability,”
Last week, UMass Memorial Health Care – of which Wing Memorial is a part – announced last week that they projected a $57 million operating loss in fiscal year 2013 and that measures would be taken in fiscal year 2014 and beyond to correct those loses.
The statement concludes by saying that “Wing Memorial is confident that the action taken is necessary to maintain its financial health and to continue to provide high-quality, safe care to patients and the community.”
