HADLEY, Mass. (WGGB) – Customers who would once flock to College Pro Computers to get their machines fixed are now standing on Route 9 picking up replacements.
Their PCs were destroyed in the fire that took out businesses and residences there last month.
“Shortly after the fire, he started calling me. I didn’t even seek them out. So, it’s been amazing, in spite of everything they’re going through, he’s reaching out to the clients,” Tibor Flothmann said.
Owner Steve Marcil arranged for folks to meet in the spot where his repair shop once stood, so he could give them replacement machines.
“It was 36 machines under work from us. It was students, business owners, and they need their machines from us. We reached out to other companies and vendors and a lot of them were like, ‘whatever you want, whatever you need,’” Marcil shared.
Insurance didn’t cover what was lost. Old interns and former employees also reached out donate their gently used laptops.
Marcil was able to buy what they needed to get College Pro back up and running.
“I was really glad. At least I could start somewhere, but I was really happy. He’s a good guy,” said Joss Dure.
“It makes me happy that he’s got people who are supporting him, vendors who are supporting him. I can’t imagine the nightmare of going through the rubble,” Maricano Bordeau stated.
As they move forward, College Pro is offering free pickups and drop-offs, and is still doing service calls.
Marcil notes that if you did have a machine with him that was damaged in the structure fire, you might want to check with your insurance company to see if it’s covered. For now, the cause of the fire is still under investigation
