Mass. to Get $121M for Low-Income Heating

House-Heating2BOSTON (AP) — Massachusetts will receive $121 million in federal funds to help low-income residents heat their homes in the coming winter.

Gov. Deval Patrick said on Friday the funding would be distributed among 22 local agencies that will administer the Low Income Home Energy Assistance program that serves about 200,000 elderly and low-income residents.

The state received about $133 million from the federal government for the program last year.

The Legislature voted recently to appropriate an additional $20 million in state funds for heating assistance this winter.

Households with incomes that are 60 percent or lower of the state’s median income are eligible for the aid.
