Water Main Work to Leave Area of Monson Without Water Wednesday

WATERMONSON (WGGB) — Many residents in one section of Monson will be without water for a while on Wednesday.

Work will begin on the water connection to the new Town Offices and Police Department Building on Wednesday at 8:00 a.m. That means water to all homes, apartments and businesses from 105 Main St. to 155 Main St. (inclusively) will be shut off until 3:00 p.m.

The Monson Water Department’s work will involve all valves and hydrants in the area. They will uncover the existing 12-inch water main, remove the old valve, and replace it will new 12-inch valves. Those will service the new buildings.

The Town of Monson asks that the affected residents store a supply of drinking water to last them those 7 hours. Residents may also want to fill their bathtubs and keep a spare bucket of water, to allow use of your toilets if necessary.

They say the work will be done quickly, in order to restore water as soon as possible. However, when water is restored, the water may be rusty and contain a small amount of air.

They ask that you open all of your cold water faucets and let the water run until it is clear.

It is another step in rebuilding the area following the June 2011 tornado.

If you have questions or concerns, you can call the Monson Water and Sewer Department at (413) 267-4130.
