Williams’ Big 2nd Half Leads UMass Past BC, 86-73

UMassNEWBOSTON (AP) — Chaz Williams scored 15 of his 20 points in the second half to lift Massachusetts to a season-opening 86-73 win over intrastate rival Boston College on Sunday afternoon at TD Garden.

Cady Lalanne had a career-high 27 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for the Minutemen, who outrebounded Boston College 44-27. Sampson Carter added 12 points and eight boards.

Ryan Anderson led the Eagles (0-2) with 22 points, and Olivier Hanlan had 19. The Eagles had just seven rebounds in the second half.

The game was the middle part of the inaugural Coaches vs. Cancer triple-header, featuring six of the state’s Division I programs.
