Federal Authorities Search Homes in Three Communities


WESTFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — Federal agents conducted searches on homes in three area communities Thursday.

Mark Karangekis of the FBI’s Springfield office says that the searches at 5-7 Fairview Street in Westfield, 122 Wolcott Street in Springfield, and 242 River Road in Agawam were all part of a court-authorized, legal investigation.

ABC40′s Stephanie Officer reports was in Westfield and reports that a member of the FBI and a Postal Inspector were seen going into the home. She also reports seeing members of the Mass. State Police Gang Unit on-scene as well.

Karangekis was not able comment on any other additional details regarding the investigation.

No arrests have been made

    According to other news sources, simultaneous raids were made in Westfield, Springfield and Agawam which included agents of the FBI, Bureau of Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the criminal arm of the IRS and the U.S. Postal Service as well as local and state police. No other information has been released and no mention was made of Russians or any other ethnic group.
