HOLYOKE, Mass. (WGGB) — Several Holyoke firefighters were recognized for their bravery in the line of duty. Members of the department were honored for their heroics during Thursday night’s annual award ceremony.
Among those honored were several firefighters who performed rescues during the F-4 tornado that left a massive path of destruction in Western Massachusetts. Their efforts are the reason their Chief says lives were saved that day, including that of a young girl who was trapped inside of a collapsed structure.
Many of those honored spent countless hours going door-to-door checking on people in the aftermath of that devastating twister.
