One of State’s Most Wanted Sex Offenders Caught in Holyoke

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WGGB) — One of two local men being sought by State Police as a most wanted sex offender has been captured in Holyoke.

Mass. State Police report that 30-year-old Roberto Jimenez was caught Tuesday in Holyoke, while he was trying to hide in a closet.

Jimenez, along with nine other men, were placed on the State Police’s top ten list of most wanted sex offenders over the weekend.

The list is an effort to locate some of the state’s most dangerous sex offenders, many of whom have failed to properly register as a sex offender.

Jimenez, who also has used other names including Robert Jimenez, “Dill,” and “Dee,” was wanted by Springfield and Holyoke Police on charges of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14 and failure to register as a sex offender.

According to State Police, Jimenez was convicted in 2006 on two counts of rape a child under 16 years of age and one count of indecent assault and battery. After being released from prison, he reportedly settled in Holyoke, but allegedly did not adhere to the conditions of his probation and did not properly registered as a sex offender.

Still being sought locally is 46-year-old Steven Michael Cooper. He is wanted by Springfield Police on two warrants – one charging him with rape from an incident on March 21, 2008, and the other with failure to register as a sex offender.

Cooper, who also has an alias of Michael Jemel Cooper, was convicted of a rape in Georgia back in 1987 and was sentenced to 20 years in jail.

Cooper is described as a black man, 5′ 7″ tall, weighs 167 pounds, and has black hair and brown eyes.

A total of five people have now been captured since the list was released over the weekend.

If anyone knows the whereabouts of Cooper or any of the men on the poster, you are urged to call 1-800-KAPTURE (800-527-8873), State Police Headquarters at (508) 820-2121, or your local police department.
