CHICOPEE, Mass. (WGGB)- ABC40 Honor Roll was back on the road again this morning. From 5-7 AM on Friday every week we broadcast at a high school in Western Mass. to showcase of all the great things going on.
Today ABC40’s Brittany Decker was at Chicopee Comprehensive High School with students who were full of school spirit. The band, directed by Mr. Blanksteen, was the first group to arrive before 5 AM to wake up our viewers! The cheerleaders were right behind along with the mascot, “Coltie.”
They were joined by Principal, Derek Morrison, who was happy to host the event.
“We are just so proud that channel 40 picked us to come out and show some of the great things the kids are doing,” Morrison says.
The National Honor Society and Business Society were in attendance and the Guided Instructor Program too.
The public school is unique in that is prepares students far beyond graduation with their career education classes, internships, and hands-on programs. The Polish National Credit Union at the school gives the opportunity for students to learn what it is like in the business world.
“This allows students and faculty to open accounts and save their money,” explains Samantha Russ.
We also met the Best Buddies Organization under the direction of Ann Demeo. “Best Buddies promotes friendships with people of all abilities,” Demeo says.
“I love being here with my best friends here today,” adds Best Buddy, Abigail Uszynski.
The Student Council is also hosting a food drive for the Thanksgiving holiday. Cans already line a wall in the gymnasium and they have collected several turkeys.
Our last stop was “Compaccinos,” a student run restaurant at school. They cooked and served breakfast to all who participated today. Next week students will not be in school during the Thanksgiving holiday, so we pick up our Honor Roll Live on Friday, December 6th at Easthampton High.
