Bobby Moynihan

What would Thanksgiving be without a visit from our beloved Drunk Uncle? He’s just one of the many characters Bobby Moynihan hilariously embodies on Saturday Night Live, which commemorates Turkey Day with a sketch-stuffed special.

TV Guide Magazine: What was Thanksgiving like for you growing up in Westchester County, New York?
A lot of Giants football, eating and napping. It was just the four of us: my mom, dad, sister and me. My dad is quite possibly the biggest Giants fan in the world. I believe he wore a Phil Simms jersey to my high school and college graduations. It was all about waiting for Christmas to come. I was an excited kid.

TV Guide Magazine: What was your favorite holiday dish?
My mom makes something called green pie, which I thought was a delicacy that many people only had at Thanksgiving, but it turns out it was just Jell-O with whipped cream on it. And it’s delicious.

TV Guide Magazine: Is Drunk Uncle based on any real-life relatives?
It’s pretty much based on me. I don’t drink often, but when I do, that’s what I look like.

TV Guide Magazine: You do great impressions, most recently of crack-smoking Toronto mayor Rob Ford. Have you ever met any of the people you’ve impersonated?
I met Chris Christie on the show. He was absolutely wonderful. He’s a very kind, funny man. He did Weekend Update and he killed, which is very hard to do. I feel like Update is the hardest thing to do on that show because you’re just sitting there staring at a camera. But he was great, he was very nice to me, and he even sent a letter to my mom and dad. I’ve met Snooki. She had no clue who I was and that I was dressed up as her, then she went, “Oh, okay, now I can see who you are.” And I met Guy Fieri. It was a very nice interaction. He really enjoys my impression and wants to do the show, and I keep trying to help him out, but I have no say in the matter.

TV Guide Magazine: You made out with Bill Hader in a Turkey Day-themed “Kissing Family” sketch. Do you miss him?
Of course I do. He may be the best kisser in the business.

TV Guide Magazine: Are you planning any Thanksgiving sketches?
I’ve been trying to get a sketch on the air for years where I play the Buzz Lightyear float in the Thanksgiving Day Parade, and I keep knocking things over and hurting people. It hasn’t gotten on yet, but I’m going to try it again this year.

Saturday Night Live Thanksgiving airs Wednesday, Nov. 27 at 9/8c on NBC.
