Tainted Sluggers on List of Baseball Hall of Fame Nominees

roger-clemensNEW YORK (WGGB) — 36 former players have been announced as the nominees for the 2014 Baseball Hall of Fame Ballot.

The list features 19 newcomers, including Cy Young Award winners Greg Maddux and Tom Glavine. However, it also includes several controversial figures.

Barry Bonds, Mark McGuire, Sammy Sosa, and Roger Clemens all return to the ballot, despite their admission to, or positive tests for, performance-enhancing drugs at one point during their careers.

Clemens and the tainted sluggers long denied the steroid allegations.

The roughly 600 baseball writers who vote on the nominees did not elect an inductee last year for the first time since 1996.

Ballots are due by Dec. 31, and results will be announced Jan. 8.
