Young Man Killed in Major Early Morning Accident in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD (WGGB) –A 23-year-old man is dead this morning after his car collided with a fire hydrant on Parker Street in Springfield and overturned.

The accident occurred just after 4 o’clock this morning. That’s when Springfield Police and Fire crews were called to the scene at 1986 Parker Street, near the intersection with Ellendale Circle.

Aide to the Springfield Fire Commissioner, Dennis Leger, told ABC40 that fire crews were able to extricate the victim from his vehicle, but that he did not survive his injuries. His identity is being withheld.

Police are still investigating the cause of the accident.

A portion of Parker Street was closed while they worked to clean up the area, but is now back open.
