Late Field Goal Gives Patriots 34-31 Win Over Texans

PatsWEBHOUSTON, Texas (WGGB) — The Patriots withstood a tough match-up down in Texas Sunday.

They traded leads with Houston throughout the game, during which neither offense struggled.

But two late drives ending in Stephen Gostowski field goals gave the Patriots a 34-31 win over the Texans.

Tom Brady had 371 yards passing and two touchdowns, one of which went to Rob Gronkowski, the other to running back Shane Vereen.

LaGarrette Blount gave the Patriots a 28-24 lead to start the fourth quarter with a rushing touchdown.

But Texans running back Ben Tate continued to give the Patriots problems. After a long pass brought Houston into the red zone, Tate ran it in for his third score of the day to give Houston a 31-28 lead.

New England responded with a strong drive that ended with a field goal to tie it at 31-31. Another field goal gave them a 34-31 lead with just minutes to play.

The Texans did not have enough time to get back in this game and the Patriots win a close one, 34-31.
