ABC40 Honor Roll – Lander Grinspoon Students Donate to Hadley Fire Victims

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WGGB) — In tonight’s Honor Roll, we recognize some local students in Northampton who raised money for some of the victims of the Hadley strip mall fire.

The children in the first and second grades – 18 of them – at the Lander Grinspoon Academy wanted to do something to help when they heard about the fire that destroyed the businesses, including Mi Tierra, one of their favorite restaurants.

So, they raised $103 to donate to Mi Tierra and gave it to the owners who visited their school on Thursday.

Teacher Ann Armon says it’s about more than money. “You really want to do it in a humble way, that’s all inclusive and to not just have it be about giving and then running the other direction, you know, really make them know they have the power to change the world,” she says.

The children actually raised an additonal $103 dollars to send to victims of the typhoon in the Philippines.

We always like to hear about the good things going on in your school. Send all the information along with pictures and video, if you have it, to 40inthemorning@wggb.com
