AGAWAM, Mass. (WGGB) — Agawam is officially on board with plans for a Springfield casino.
Friday morning, Mayor Richard Cohen signed a surrounding community agreement with MGM.
After voicing concerns about adverse affects the casino could have on Agawam, the town signed a deal that would guarantee payments totaling $2.375 million.
The mayor also stipulated that if other communities get better deals, Agawam’s numbers will change.
“This agreement assures to the town that MGM will not, prior to submission of its gaming application, enter into a mitigation agreement with another abutting community with more favorable payment terms,” Cohen explains.
The deal also allows a review of any adverse affects of the casino, once it begins operations, in interval of one year and five years.
