Pats Win 27-26 on Amendola Touchdown, After Onside Kick
The outlook was bleak with less than two minutes to play, but New England recovered an onside kick, putting them inside Browns territory.
Tom Brady led the Patriots down the field, with the help of a pass interference call, and finished it off with a go-ahead touchdown pass to Danny Amendola. That gave the Patriots a 27-26 lead with just 30 seconds left.
Despite scoring a combined 68 points in their last two games, the Patriots were held scoreless in the first half of Sunday’s match-up.
Two Billy Cundiff field goals have provided the only points of the first half for the Browns.
Then in the third quarter, Gary Barnidge caught a pass from Jason Campbell and took it 40 yards for the touchdown, to give Cleveland a 12-0 lead.
At the end of the third, Campbell found Josh Gordon who took it 80 yards for another score, giving the Browns a 19-3 lead.
But the Patriots finally put a touchdown-scoring drive together to end the third quarter. Shane Vereen found the end zone on a 6 yard run, and Tom Brady completed the two-point conversion to Julian Edelman.
Edelman later caught a touchdown pass to bring the Patriots within striking distance.
Brady finished with 418 yards passing, 2 touchdowns and 1 interception.
