HOLYOKE, Mass. (WGGB) – With just 13 days left until Christmas, everyone’s schedules are getting more hectic, making it hard to get everything accomplished. But shopping for holiday gifts shouldn’t feel like a chore. That’s why area stores and malls are trying their best to make shopping more convenient for their customers.
Even on a weekday afternoon holiday shopping is a battle. A battle that begins in the parking lot.
“It was a zoo, and everyone is just getting really close to each other and almost bumping each other and people are walking in front of cars with big shopping bags, it’s nuts,” explained Morgan Whitehead, a Springfield College student shopping at the Holyoke Mall today.
Other shoppers agreed.
“I came in this morning on a Thursday and didn’t expect to see so many people,” said Tony Moralez.
But the malls are trying to help.
“We extend the holiday shopping hours just to provide that extra convenience. People are working, they have parties to go to. So starting Friday the 13th we’ll be open from 8 am to 11 pm until December 23rd,” said Lisa Wray, Marketing Director for the Holyoke Mall.
They even have hours on Christmas Eve from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
And those extended hours aren’t the only way that malls are making holiday shopping a little easier. There’s also gift wrapping, gift cards for that person that’s tough to buy for and even a coat and package check, to help you lighten your load.
If you’re not quite done with your shopping, the old adage is true. The early bird gets the worm.
“That 8 a.m. start time is so important to shoppers because we’re really not that busy at 8 o’clock in the morning so it’s a great time to get out and get your shopping done,” explained Wray.
Perhaps the best way to avoid the holiday shopping bah-humbugs is to have a plan when you brave the malls.
If you’re heading out to finish your holiday shopping, check the stores holiday hours. Many stores and malls offer extended hours which may vary depending on the day.
