Clock’s Ticking to Complete Christmas Shopping
HOLYOKE, Mass. (WGGB) — The race is on to finish Christmas shopping.
Tuesday’s blast of snow didn’t help those who still need to find that perfect gift.
Ho, ho, snow! This week’s blanketing of the white stuff had some staring harder at the calendar.
For many, it was one less shopping day in their Christmas gifting scramble
“[Did last night's snowstorm put you back on your shopping at all?] A little bit. It was a lot of snow and it was really hard to travel with the snowstorm, so it put me back a little bit with the shopping,” says Gretchen Hoppe of Westfield.
But it wasn’t a lost day for everyone
Suzanne Newton of Springfield adds, “I usually make my own gifts, so I can sit and home and make them all night long. [Not have to worry about the weather and you save a bunch of money]. That’s right.”
For those who missed a shopping day, Holyoke Mall was open early, as you have seven days to cross names of that holiday gift list
“[How many gifts do you buy? Hundreds..thousands]. No, I’d say 20 or 30.”
It all about being prepared, so that even when Mother Nature deletes a shopping day, eager spenders can bounce right back
“[Are you an organized shopper?] Yes, I am. [Share your secrets.] I write everything down. I write everybody’s name that I shop for and I can make a list that I’d like to get them.”
But the clock is ticking…And the shoppers are shopping..most likely right up to the last minute.
Most malls and stores will keep extended hours to accommodate the expected last minute spending surge.
