Route 9 in Cummington Opens After Deadly Crash
CUMMINGTON, Mass. (WGGB) — One person is dead following a crash in Cummington.
Mass. State Police Lt. Daniel Richard said just after 2:00 p.m. Friday, Cummington Police requested assistance from State Police at the scene of a head-on crash along Route 9, near the Windsor town line.
Richard added that the crash involves a passenger car and fuel tanker.
Mary Carey, spokesperson for the Northwestern District Attorney’s office, said an SUV was heading west on Route 9 when it appeared to have crossed the center line and collided with the tanker
The driver of the SUV has died as a result of the crash, Carey adds. The name of the victim is not being released at this time.
The driver of the tanker truck was uninjured.
There is currently no leak or rupture of the tank on that truck.
Cummington Police, the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section continue to investigate the crash.
Route 9 was closed for nearly seven hours while the scene was cleared.
