A New Record! Amazing Warmth as Thaw Continues
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) – Temperatures across most of western Mass have soared into the lower 60’s! A gusty southerly wind is helping to shoot temperatures to record levels. Already Westover Air Reserve Base has broken a record high for today’s date, December 22nd. The temperature as of 10 am has jumped to 61 degrees breaking the old record of 59! The snow is melting like crazy and thoughts of a white Christmas are being dashed all across the area!
An amazing temperature profile is taking shape across southern New England. A stationary front has set up just to our north and east. On the other side of the front temperatures are some 20 to 30 degrees colder. Across northeast Massachusetts including Boston, temperatures are in the 30’s and 40’s while there is a major ice storm going on across Northern New England!
We should stay mild through the afternoon with the exception of areas north of route 2 across Franklin County. It’s not out of the question that these areas could slip into the upper 30’s and low 40’s for a few hours this afternoon, before the warm air pushes into central New England.
It will stay mild tomorrow as well before turning sharply cold for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Highs on Christmas will only reach into the middle 20’s.
Have a great day! Dan Brown
