Homicide Ruled in Shooting Death of Conn. Man

Police-Murder3WINDSOR, Conn. (AP) — Authorities say the shooting death of an 87-year-old Connecticut man known for his Christmas light display at his New Hampshire home was a homicide.

John Chakalos was found dead at his Windsor home on Friday from a single gunshot wound to the head. Police are investigating.

The Journal Inquirer reports that Theresa Goodwin, a great-niece of Chakalos, said the family had been mourning the death of Chakalos’ wife, Rita Chakalos, of cancer before Thanksgiving.

The couple owned an 80-acre estate in Chesterfield, N.H., known for its annual holiday light display. Guests have been invited to bring a monetary donation or food.

Sunday was the last night for people to tour this year’s show.

Joy E. Washburn, a caretaker of Chakalos’ Chesterfield property, told The Keene Sentinel she hopes the tradition will continue.

Everyone including the writer of the story seem more concerned on if his light display will continue on, than they are about the details of his murder.
