WESTFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — It’s the time of year when we shower our family members, including the furry ones, with presents. While some animals don’t have a place to call home, they’ll still get a few gifts of their own this Christmas.
It’s become an annual tradition at Rocky’s Ace Hardware — every December, all 32 to stores take up a collection for local animal shelters.
“These community shelters have a pretty tight budget,” says Seth Dihlmann, manager of Rocky’s Ace Hardware in Westfield. “A lot of times we do forget about our pets during the holidays, you know, the homeless pets so it’s good to reach out to these local shelters to provide the food that they desperately need.”
Last year, Rocky’s Ace Hardware donated more than 6,000 lbs of food to area animal shelters. This year, the company is determined to top that.
“We’re expecting to meet and exceed that,” says Dihlmann. “It’s been a very good year.”
He adds, “In fact, here in the area stores, we’re actually extending the donation process a little bit and customers can actually donate food through Thursday the 26th.
All of the food collected at the Rocky’s Ace Hardware in Westfield goes directly to the Westfield Animal Shelter. So far, they’ve collected a few hundred pounds, but they’re still hoping to collect a few more cans and bags of food by Thursday.
Employees at Rocky’s Ace Hardware plan to deliver the donations to the Westfield Animal Shelter on Friday, December 27th.
