Church Rises From Ashes Just in Time for Holiday Season
Somers, Conn. (WGGB) – The scene at the Somers Congregational United Church of Christ on January 1st of 2012, a sight that left many with a feeling of doubt. Fast-forward nearly two years to date, the church triumphantly re-opened Tuesday just in time for Christmas.
“We knew we wanted to rebuild and we wanted to rebuild in the same place,” said Dr. Reverend Barry Cass. “We needed to put together a committee to begin that process. Those things kinda moved along and then we reached out to people and people were already reaching out to us.”
For Doctor Reverend Barry Cass, it was a long and tedious process to see the church where it is today. He credits the community outreach for the successful return.
“They’ve supported us and been present with us. Local town officials have been great offering their support as much as they could. People in general have just been very supportive.”
And with the return of the church during the holiday season, it brings back emotional memories for this particular family.
“I can’t explain how excited we are to be in this church. It’s amazing,” expressed Heidi Delflorio. “We were married in this church and these two were baptized in the church before so this feels like home. We’re really happy to be back.”
In this season of giving, the reuniting of these memories are the best gift one could ask for.
