WMECo Crews Return from Maine

wmeco crewsSPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — It was a happy homecoming Saturday in Sprienfield for the Western Mass Electric Co. and NStar crews who went to Maine to restore power after an ice storm hit earlier this week.

The crews headed to the Augusta area on Christmas Eve, to help restore power for more than 110,000.

They worked in icy weather conditions, and forfeited their own holiday celebrations for the cause.

“Christmas day, you called home to wish them a Merry Christmas, and you could hear people in the background, and everybody is having a little bit of fun, and you’re sitting there going ‘Oh, man,’ and it was cold. But it’s part of our job, you know, people need power,” said Normand Plasse.

The Springfield crew reports that despite the difficult conditions, there were no injuries or equipment damage.
