Woman Rescued from Springfield Fire, Cause Still Unknown
Crews were called to an apartment building at 1120 Saint James Avenue shortly after midnight Sunday.
According to Dennis Leger, Executive Aide to Springfield Fire Commissioner Joseph Conant, a 44-year-old woman was taken out of her apartment by firefighters who found her on her bedroom floor.
The woman was originally transported to Baystate Medical Center, however she has been moved to Mass General Hospital as her condition has worsened.
The fire is believed to have started in the kitchen of her apartment and caused about $15 thousand in damage.
Leger said several people were evacuated from their apartments, but were able to go back inside once the fire was extinguished.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
