ANN ARBOR, Mich. (WGGB) — The 21 women’s hockey players who will head to Russia as members of Team USA were named Wednesday, and they included one star who hails from western Mass.

Kacey Bellamy, from Westfield, is among 5 players named to the women’s olympic hockey team who are from the Bay State.

Forwards Meghan Duggan of Danvers and Alex Carpenter of North Reading were named to the roster, along with defenseman Michelle Picard from Taunton, and goaltender Molly Schaus of Natick.

Bellamy, 26, will wear number 22 and play defense for Team USA.

The team was announced Wednesday at Michigan Stadium, during the 2014 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic between the Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs.

The team has been practicing and competing in Boston, as they prepare for their trip to Sochi on February 1. They also have been training in Bedford and Woburn since early September.

“Today is an important day for our team and we’re thrilled to continue our journey toward Sochi,” said Katey Stone, head coach for Team USA.

All 21 players on the 2014 roster were part of a group that captured a gold medal together at the International Ice Hockey Federation Women’s World Championship in April.

The first game for Team USA Women’s Hockey is February 8 against Finland.
