Police Locate Vehicle Suspected in Boston Road Hit & Run

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — Police have located a vehicle suspected of hitting and killing a Springfield man Wednesday.

Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney says that around 3:00 a.m. Wednesday, 25-year-old Derek Russell of Springfield was riding a bicycle near Barber Street and Boston Road when he was hit by a Ford F-150 pickup truck.

The driver reportedly never stopped following the collision and fled the scene down Boston Road towards Wilbraham.

Delaney explains that “with assistance from the public,” investigators have located the truck on Tavistock Street in Springfield. It has since been impounded and has been towed away for processing.

“The investigating officers are asking that the driver of the Ford Pick-up turn himself in at the Springfield Police Department,” Delaney says, adding that officers are working towards an arrest warrant.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
