Local Businesses Thrive in Cold Weather
Hadley(WGGB)—-While some businesses are closed today, others are flourishing like Esselon Cafe in Hadley.
“Now it’s really busy,” said Jazmyne Nieto, an employee at Esselon Cafe. “We weren’t really expecting it at all.”
Yet, the cafe is a perfect place for people to come on a day off to kick back, relax, and grab some coffee or hot soup to stay warm.
“It is actually warmer in here than my house,” said Jessica Cook. “I like coming here and trying to get a little bit of work done.”
There were also plenty of shoppers out today looking to stock up on hand warmers and other cold weather gear.
“Mittens are much much warmer than gloves,” advises Chris Murray of Sam’s Outdoor Outfitters. “So if you are going to be out for a longer period of time, wool will keep you warm. Neck gators keep the snow from going down your neck as well.”
There was a long line in Sam’s Outdoor Outfitters of customers purchasing boots, hats, jackets , socks and face masks to prevent frost bite.
“It’s freezing, its wet and snowy,” said Amanda Robertson of Hadley. “We have a little hill outside our house so we are trying to get stuff so that my kids can be a little more adventurous. With these helmets on when they go sledding and I need some long underwear. Hopefully keep nice and warm”
Other thriving businesses include drive-thrus and pizza delivery, those that don’t require customers to leave the warmth of their car or homes.
