Record Cold Temps. Set to Grip Western Mass
With clear skies, diminishing winds, a nd a fresh snow pack temperatures tonight will plummet! Readings will fall to -25 to -15 degrees below zero! The all time record low for tomorrow is -22 set on January 22, 1959. We have a chance of getting that cold tonight. The daily record low for today, January 3rd is -10. We will get close to this right before mid-night and the daily record low for January 4th is -12. We should easily break this record.
Remember, frostbite can occur in just a few minutes in these conditions. If you must travel, make sure your vehicle is equipped with warm blankets and other survival gear in case you unexpectedly get stranded. A charged cell phone is a must too! Keep the pets indoors and check on your neighbor to make sure they are staying warm.
After what may be one of the coldest nights ever recorded here in western Massachusetts tonight into tomorrow morning, a significant warm-up is expected over the weekend!
Temperatures will rebound tomorrow afternoon. With highs in the lower 20s (some 30-45 degrees warmer than the morning low) along with lighter winds and sunshine it will feel like a “heat wave”. Our next storm arrives Sunday night but believe it or not it’s looking more like a rain storm as this storm takes an inside track to our west. This will draw in milder air and pushing the Arctic air briefly back into Canada. As the storm departs on Monday the Arctic cold will come racing back in for late Monday and Tuesday.
Have a great afternoon & stay warm!
