Area Shelters Stay Open Because of The Cold

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WGGB) — Instead of letting homeless people stay outside all day…

Many local shelters are changing things up because of this bitter cold.

Excessive exposure can be deadly.

“Both the Grove Street Inn & Interfaith Winter Shelter once we realized the temperatures were dropping we changed our hours. We’re typically during the week both shelters are closed during the day,” said Danielle Deberry, Director of Grove Street Inn & Interfaith Winter Shelter.

The shelters are letting people stay indoors at increased capacity and have also beefed up their staffing.
