Television Pioneer Kitty Broman Dies

KITTY BROMANSPRINGFIELD, Mass (WGGB) – One of local televisions true pioneers has died.

Kitty Broman died Sunday night at her home in Longmeadow.

In 1953, Kitty Broman co-founded WWLP- TV in Springfield with Bill Putnam, who she later married.

On the air, she hosted At Home with Kitty and Kitty Today.

Kitty was a longtime advocate for the mentally ill. Her luncheons and fashion shows raised tens of thousands of dollars through the years. Kitty Broman was one of, if not the first female broadcast executives in the country, in an industry that was dominated by men, both on the air and off.

Kitty Broman was 97.

Yet another connection to my childhood is gone. I have fond memories of watching Kitty Broman on WWLP when she did At Home with Kitty. She was a link to a simpler and happy time.

I only remember John Quill, the weatherman.
R.I.P. I hope to live that long.
