(WGGB) — Reports indicate that former UMass football coach Mark Whipple is heading back to Amherst.

The Boston Herald reports, citing a source to Steve Buckley, that Whipple will be the next coach of the Minutemen.

The paper adds that an announcement is expected “in the coming days.”

Whipple coached UMass from 1998-2003, where had a 49-26 record and led the team to the Division 1-AA championship in 1998.

In 2004, he joined the Pittsburgh Steelers as an quarterback coach. He has also had stints with the Philadelphia Eagles, Cleveland Browns, and the University of Miami.

Whipple replaces Charley Molnar who was let go in December after a 2-22 record over two seasons with UMass.
