Two Men Held After Shootout With Holyoke Police
A spokesperson with the Holyoke Police Department says the men were arrested just before midnight on Friday, but had no further information as to their identities, or the location in which they were apprehended.
Police say around 10PM a detective was responding to South Elm Street for a report of shots fired. When he arrived on scene, he encountered two possible suspects. While trying to arrest them, one of the suspects started shooting at him. The detective then returned fire as a chase through city streets and backyards ensued.
The detective was not hurt. His unmarked police cruiser was struck with bullets. It’s unclear if the suspects were hurt in any way. The suspect who shot at the detective is described as a dark skinned Hispanic man, wearing blue jeans, a tan top, and cropped hair.
Holyoke and State Police, some armed with high powered weapons, were seen swarming the area with police canines for several hours Friday.
Police are still investigating the incident. We will bring you the latest as it becomes available later this morning.
