Arnold St. Reopens in Agawam After Flooding

AGAWAM FLOODINGAGAWAM (WGGB) — Arnold Street in Agawam has reopened Sunday, following heavy rains which lead to severe flooding Saturday night.

At one point, the water was so deep that a sedan became stuck, and crews had to assist in removing the car from the waters, which were more than 2 feet deep.

The DPW was on the scene throughout Sunday morning. They say that nothing malfunctioned, but the system simply can’t keep up with all the rain, and isn’t draining properly.

Nearby residents are dealing with some minor damage to their lawns, but police say none of the damage from the flooding was extensive.

There is always one fool who thinks their cars are boats, and that somehow they can make it.

In reply to ScottishWeasel, yes maybe there are some brave people who drive thru deep puddles but I happen to know this person. With the cold ground and the warm air and no street lights, there was a lot of fog and the street was pitch black. The driver could not see the water. You’d think he’d get some help from the authorities. No one even asked if he was okay and was sent on his way walking home in the cold rain. He was soaked and his car is totaled. Residents in the area reported the flooded street but no one decided to do anything until the car went thru and got stuck. Thanks to that driver, the street is now closed so no one else makes the same mistake.
