40 Force: Fighting the Flu
(WGGB) — Flu season is hitting hard this year with 35 states reporting widespread cases.
That includes here in Massachusetts, where a Boston man died just last week.
That’s why the 40 Force was helping you fight the flu Monday
We teamed up with Walgreens and opened our Liberty Street studios Monday afternoon to give out flu shots.
We also had specialists here to take your questions and calls and even though flu season starts in the fall, it’s not to late to get a shot.
“Really, the peak for the flu season is after the New Year, mid to late January and maybe early February. That’s the peak. That’s why you always hear these surges. You know it’s in the news after the holidays. Everyone is like ‘Oh, I’m getting sick. I got to go get my flu shot,’ so no, it’s not too late. There’s still time, there’s still time,” explains Jen Salvon from Big Y Pharmacy.
Surprisingly, more than 60 percent of those hospitalized are between the ages of 18 and 64 – that’s almost twice as many as last year.
We would like to thank our panel of experts for joining us tonight:
- Christine Vala and the staff from Walgreens, for providing tonight’s clinic
- Chalice Santorelli, NP – Southampton Medical Associates, a Cooley Dickinson Health Care Medical Practice
- Jen Salvon, Mass. Manager of Pharmacy Operations – Big Y Pharmacy
