Holyoke Seeking Buyers for Geriatric Authority

Screen Shot 2014-01-16 at 11.56.51 AMHOLYOKE, Mass. (WGGB) — The City of Holyoke is seeking buyers for the Geriatric Authority, which has had its financial problems.

Thursday, Mayor Alex Morse and Patricia Devine, chairperson of the Geriatric Authority, announced a Memordandum of Agreement that calls for request for proposals from potential buyers.

The city-run nursing home and rehab facility is located at 45 Lower Westfield Road.

“Today’s the beginning of a process to basically privatize the Geriatric Authority and see what the possibilities are at that site,” explains Morse.

Devine adds, “We just create an environment that is good for the people of the Geriatric Authority, employees of the Geriatric Authority, and certainly the city and its taxpayers.”

The agreement allows the city to provide resources and assistance for the bidding process that could result in the sale of the Geriatric Authority.
