ABC40 Honor Roll Live: Belchertown High
BELCHERTOWN, Mass. (WGGB) — It is Friday and that means our ABC40 Honor Roll LIVE! was back on the road.
Bright and early at 5 a.m., energy filled the halls of Belchertown High School.
At the home of the Orioles, a sea of orange and black…and a few came in white.
“Paper wedding dresses and the dress had to be 92 percent made of paper,” says Helen Austin, a member of the National Art Honor Society.
Even with the early wake-up call, fun was had by many…and that’s the very reason we all got out of bed this morning.
The students at Belchertown High are not just doing great work in the school building. They are doing great work for their community.
Alyssa Maggi with the Student Council explains, “We go along at lunches collecting money for local charities”
Other community groups include SADD, Students Against Destructive Decisions, and the BHS Buddies program, which works to foster friendships between children with and without disabilities at the school.
BHS senior Jennifer Ollari-Barry adds, “Being in band is like being in a big family. We’re all joined together for a common purpose.”
All of the school sports teams were also represented Friday morning.
“From the start, our goal was to win the state title and our hard work and team chemistry is what go us there,” says Lewis Berger, a member of the boy’s soccer team.
Even those who were once students at Belchertown High have come back to teach the next generation of pupils.
Teacher Joanna McNeill explains, “It’s a great opportunity for all of us to give back to the community we grew up in.”
And three incredible retirees this year, including Paula Pagos, Betty Siwinski, and Debbie Nacewicz.
“[What did you think of Honor Roll LIVE at your school?] We’re so happy that you came to showcase us today,” says principal Christine Vigneux.
A huge thanks to everyone who woke up with us this morning, “and of course, to all of our students here at Belchertown high school for a wonderful friday morning”
Next week, Honor Roll LIVE heads to Putnam High School in Springfield.
We always like to hear about the good things going on in your school. Just let us know.
