Magic Wings Helps Injured Butterflies Take Flight Again
SOUTH DEERFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — Butterflies are known to be delicate, but did you know you can fix their broken wings.
Fred Gagnon, the curator of the Magic Wings Butterfly Conservatory in South Deerfield, invited us by Friday to learn how it’s done.
If you’ve ever seen the sad look on a child’s face who tries to catch a butterfly but breaks it’s wing, perhaps you could take a trip to South Deerfield and show your child that it’s possible to mend by using a “donor wing.”
Gagnon showed us how it’s done today. “What I’m gonna do is put on a little glue right here on the main vein of the wing. Then I’m gonna open this up and place this right there and press,” he says.
It was a quick fix and the butterfly was back airborne immediately.
