stjamesbankSPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — Police are investigating the late morning robbery of a Springfield bank.

Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney says that around 11:30 a.m., a suspect walked into the United Bank on St. James Avenue and passed a teller a note.

That note, Delaney adds, demanded money and indicated that the suspect was armed with a gun. The teller handed over an undisclosed amount of cash the robber fled towards St. James Avenue.

The suspect is described as a black male, who was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, black pants, black sunglasses, and a Harley Davidson baseball hat with a beige doo-rag underneath.

The Pottenger School on Carew Street was put into lockdown for a brief time.

No injuries were reported.

If anyone has any information on the robbery, you can call Springfield Police at (413) 787-6355 or ‘Text-a-Tip’ to CRIMES (274637) and in the message, type SOLVE and your tip.
