ABC40 Honor Roll – Dogs Help Students with Reading

Holyoke, Mass. (WGGB) – Students at The Kelly Full Service Community School in Holyoke took part in a new program called “tails to read.”

The program pairs certified therapy dogs with students having a tough time with reading, for weekly sessions. Research has proven that the calm, non-judgemental presence of the dogs actually improves reading skills.

Kelly has a small and growing group of therapy dogs that works with the students. The dogs visit Kelly school for an hour each week.

The hope is that “Tails to Read” will boost the confidence and skills of the children.
