Northampton Celebrates Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WGGB) — A special celebration in Northampton Monday as the Edwards Church offered their building to hold events honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Now in it’s 30th year, the American Friends Service Committee has been celebrating the day with community activities.

“Well, the importance of the day seems obvious now. In, 1984 they organized in commemoration of King’s life before the country began to observe it. It is on their shoulders, and the shoulders of people that were led by their morality and their action that we continue to do good work,” explains Jeff Napolitano, director of the American Friends Service Committee of Western Mass.

Several events were held today, including speakers, a concert, and a performance by the Lander Grinspoon kids.
