Sen. Gale Candaras Announces Candidacy for Register of Probate
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — She’s spent 17 years in the state legislature. Now 1st Hampden and Hampshire District State Senator Gale Candaras is setting her sights to become Hampden County’s next Register of Probate.
Candaras made the announcement Tuesday morning in downtown Springfield’s old First Church.
Candaras practiced family law and says she is familiar with the Hampden Probate and Family Court. She said, “I believe this position requires a person with a diverse professional background, a background in law and the political realities of our state. Someone who can advocate in Boston for the critical resources our probate and family court and the rest of our courts need as well.”
On average, a Massachusetts state senator earns around $61,000 a year. If Candaras is elected Register of Probate in November, she’ll get a big bump in salary to $130,000.
Right now, the only announced candidate for probate is interim register Suzanne Seguin.
Long-time register Thomas Moriarty Jr. resigned in 2012 for health reasons.
